Johnny Chang Wah Ching was a prominent member of the Wah Ching gang, a Chinese-American criminal organization involved in drug trade and other illegal activities in the United States. He was born in Hong Kong in 1962 and immigrated to the US in the 1980s. He became the leader of the Wah Ching gang shortly after his arrival and expanded its influence and operations throughout the West Coast.
Chang was arrested and convicted several times for drug trafficking, firearm possession, and racketeering. However, he also managed to evade prison or receive light sentences due to lack of evidence or witness cooperation. In 1991, Chang was involved in a shooting incident at a Los Angeles nightclub that left two people dead and several injured. He fled to Hong Kong shortly after but was eventually extradited to the US, where he pleaded guilty to racketeering charges and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He died in custody in 1996 at the age of 34.
